Slimming World Secrets

Graphic to illustrate Slimming World feature on the new year in 2022, showing fireworks, glasses of bubbly and clock at midnight

Beginning the new year on a high

Well, well, well. It may be a 1lb gain, but for saying it’s new-year week and we’ve just had Christmas week, I’ll take it!

My week (eight days)

  • Average Syns per day: 32.9
  • Average Speed foods per day: 9.6
  • SP days: 5
  • Body Magic days: 5
  • Result: +1lb
  • Total loss: -5st 7lbs

A 1lb gain represents a ½lb gain over the two holiday season weeks and puts me EXACTLY at Target. Bang on, right in the middle of my bubble.

So, although it’s never nice stepping on the scales and getting a gain of any description, I can be really happy with my efforts over the holiday season.

I may have gone over my average Syns in both weeks, but I had a plan in place to limit any damage with plenty of Body Magic and SP days – a combination which has long served me well.

Believe in yourself – you can do this

I want to keep this week’s post short as I’m a busy bee, but I just wanted to comment on something of a trend I’ve noticed in Slimming World “influencer” circles.

I follow about 50 accounts on Instagram, which can be described as influencers. They have thousands of followers and post the most exquisite pictures and recipes. That’s why I follow them, for their inspiration.

But, over Christmas and especially new year, quite a few of these have posted how much they’ve struggled over the holidays, and over the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even people who have won national Slimming World awards and have been magazine cover stars have told of their struggles, of how they feel they’ve let themselves and their followers down just because they’ve gained a few pounds or, in some cases, stones.

If I can do it, so can you

These people are in the same place I was in at the beginning of 2020 – even before the pandemic hit, before we’d ever heard of Covid and Coronaviruses.

In 2019, I gained the best part of 4st, wiping out all but 7lbs of the weight I’d lost in the previous five years.

So what did I do? I rejoined. I stuck with my original group, but we had a new consultant (actually a returning consultant, and a brilliant one, the lovely Jackie).

And that gave me the mental reset I needed to get back in the zone. Two years on and I’d re-earned all my old weight loss and Body Magic awards and won group Miss Slinky and Woman of the Year titles along the way.

I got to Target, lowered it and got to my new one – and then I stayed there over Christmas and new year – something I’d previously have thought impossible.

So, if you’ve struggled over Christmas and new year – as I have in all my previous years of doing Slimming World, don’t worry, you’re not alone, whether you’re an influencer or a regular member.

Just draw that line, and maybe consider rejoining your existing group – or even joining a new one.

If I can recover from my black year in 2019, you can recover from your dodgy 2021. Try to kick your guilt into touch – you’re only human.

You. Got. This.

After seven years of playing at Slimming World, I finally got my head into gear and hit Target, losing 5½st. Since then, I've featured in Slimming World Magazine and won Woman of the Year twice. Not bad for a trans girl!
