Slimming World Secrets

Attractive woman covering lips with index finger to indicate silence, secret, secrecy, shush

Welcome to Slimming World Secrets

Hi, and welcome to my new blog, Slimming World Secrets. I shall update my “About” page with a brief history of my Slimming World journey soon but, suffice to say, I’ve been a member for almost seven years and I’ve never got to Target.

The closest I came was back in 2017 when I’d lost 4st 3lbs and was 11lbs away from my 5st target. I started at exactly 15st and my target was, and always has been, to get down to 10st.

Back then, I was completing 200km Audax bike rides every weekend and as fit as a butcher’s dog. Then life got in the way and Slimming World became less of a priority, although I never stopped going to group.

By the start of January 2020, I’d regained all but 7lbs of the weight I’d lost. It was time to hit that reset button – and I needed to hit it so hard it smashed. Think: fire alarm!

Drawing the line and starting again (again!)

So I “rejoined” (I technically kept the same account but reset my start weight and date) and started all over again. Covid-19 arrived a few weeks later and, while people across the country were struggling with weight gain due to the rigours of lockdown, I was “on it”, starting to re-earn all my awards, including the Body Magic ones.

I was nominated for our group’s Woman of the Year title, I won the Miss Slinky honours and I was named Body Magic Star. Just for good measure, I won the Cook-Off event in Free Food February, held just before the world went mad the following month.

Unlike others struggling with the pandemic, I was relatively unscathed. My job was secure (I’ve been working from home the past year in a business which is doing well) and, as I’m single and have no kids, I didn’t have the whole home schooling nightmare to face.

Coronavirus lockdown gave me focus

Apart from missing my friends and family, and trips to the football, the pub and the theatre, I was doing OK – lockdown just meant that Slimming World became my main focus, and so 2020, from that respect, was a great year.

By the last weigh-in before Christmas, I’d lost 3½st in 2020 alone (so 4st overall). I could have reset my start weight to what it was back in 2014 – but I promised that I wouldn’t do that until I got back to my 2017 PB of 10st 11lbs (4st 3lbs lost), and I was still 3lbs above that.

Then Christmas happened and, instead of learning from my errors of previous festive periods, I had a terrible week, absolutely nailing the red wine and sherry, and eating cheese like it was going out of fashion. I gained 12½lbs in ONE WEEK. Oops!

It was time to smash that reset button again – and find something new to spur me on, hence this blog, Slimming World Secrets.

After seven years of playing at Slimming World, I finally got my head into gear and hit Target, losing 5½st. Since then, I've featured in Slimming World Magazine and won Woman of the Year twice. Not bad for a trans girl!

Great start; maybe let us know about some of your non-scale victories. It’s good to have a goal, but I wouldn’t get too fixated on the lbs.
