Slimmer of the Week – and the Month
Hi folks, update time! It’s a 2lbs loss for me this week – and I’m delighted with that as it means I won both Slimmer of the Week and Slimmer of the Month. Although I’ve been angelic all week, the scales were telling a different story every day since my last weigh-in a week ago. Every morning, they’ve been showing a small gain of ½lb, 1lb or so. But all came good in the end.
I guess that, when consultants tell members not to weigh every day, they’re right. I never used to bother as I had no scales. But the Covid-19 lockdown meant buying a pair to do the official weekly weigh-in and, well, I just wanna know how I’m doing.
I understand why consultants tell members not to weigh daily – they’re worried that people will get deflated if they see a number they’re not happy with, and will then go and eat piles of cake to make themselves feel better. But it doesn’t work that way with me. If I see a number I’m not happy with, it has the opposite effect, and I know I have to work even harder to turn things around.
Eight consecutive losses
Anyway, I’m delighted with the 2lbs loss – that’s my eighth consecutive loss this year, although I must confess that most of those losses were undoing the damage I did over the Christmas period.
Anyway, the festive gain has all gone now – and then some. Today’s result gets my weight down to 10st 11.5lbs, which is just ½lb above my all-time PB. I achieved that back in the summer of 2017 when I was taking part in 200km bike rides literally every weekend – so to get so close to it with what I’m doing now is no mean feat.
I don’t do the long-distance rides anymore as they take up half the weekend and I’m not working full-time (I was self-employed back then so had loads of free time). But I find that working out most days – even if it’s just for half an hour or so – is having great results.
As I say, I’ve been angelic over the past week. I averaged 1.1 Syns per day (I know that sounds low, but so easy for me because most of my Syns went on alcohol and I’ve not drunk since New Year’s Eve) and 10.9 Speed foods per day. I worked out daily – mostly step aerobics with weights, and walking – and I did five SP days. So I’d have been pretty narked had I gained. I’ve not been so “on plan” for years, if ever.
Back on Zoom for our virtual group
Group tonight was on good old Zoom and it really was a good session. It’s so lovely to have our old consultant back. She was in charge when I joined in 2014 and she’s now on her fourth spell with us – our very own Bad Penny – after saving the group from extinction when the previous consultant stepped down at the end of last year and there was no-one lined up to replace her.
And group ended with yours truly bagging a couple of awards. I got Slimmer of the Week, which I’d not been expecting as other members had lost more weight than me – but I guess they gained last week. And, seconds later, I got Slimmer of the Month as well! I really wasn’t expecting that as I’ve only lost 4.5lbs in February – but yep, it was enough, and it means I’ve won Slimmer of the Month two months in a row for the first time ever. Well happy with that!
Great ambitions for next week
Next week should be fun. I need to lose just half a pound to equal my all-time PB and it’s also the annual Greatest Loser competition.
In the past, I’ve never been in contention for this because there were always members who’d lost at least 5st – sometimes more than that. But, for Greatest Loser 2021, I’m one of three people in with a chance. I don’t expect to win, but you never know. I just need to “be good” over the next seven days and then see what happens. The most important thing for me is getting to my PB (-4st 3lbs) and maybe even surpass that.
My Slimming World journey has been a series of peaks and troughs over the past seven years, but I’m in a really good place right now – enjoying every second of this rollercoaster ride and can’t wait to get to Target!
