Slimming World Secrets

Image of cute pet hamster to illustrate same weight as half a pound

I’ve missed Target again – and I blame the hamster

Just a short post today as I’m feeling narked. I went to group thinking I had a good chance of hitting my Target. As it was, I got a maintain – and I was lucky to get that. I blame the hamster.

My week

  • Average Syns per day: 9.1
  • Average Speed foods per day: 9.3
  • SP days: 2
  • Body Magic days: 5
  • Result: Maintain
  • Total loss: -5st 6½lbs

First of all, my week, and I was angelic. I kept my average daily Syns below the ten to 15 I usually aim for and, despite not pulling in as many SP days as normal, I thought that would get me that final ½lb loss to get me to my new Target.

I even ate prunes as my Healthy Extra B for four days to help me with my “regularity” and make me even lighter. Surely I’d hit Target this time!

Ha. The scales had other ideas. I took a deep breath and stepped on, as tentatively as always. The LCD display did its spinny, countdowny thing – and I had GAINED.

WTF?!

The curse of the Slimming World scales

OK, only half a pound, but still. Weigh ladies and consultant alike looked perplex. I must’ve looked really p*ssed off!

Our super-consultant Tracy wondered if there might be something wrong with the scales and got me to step back on.

The result was initially the same but, just before I got off, the display changed to indicate a maintain. The initial frustration must have burned off that fraction of an ounce that was just enough to tip the scales the other way.

So near yet so far from Target

But it wasn’t enough to get the loss I’d worked so hard for. A loss – any loss – would have got me to Target.

So, yeah, I was really disappointed when I went to sit down, chat with fellow members and sip my first coffee of the day – something that usually gives me so much pleasure.

When it came to my turn during Image Therapy, Tracy clearly knew how I was feeling. She suggested lowering my Syns even more – to an average of about seven per day over the next week.

I’m not sure I want to go that low, as that will mean missing out on my weekly treat of Saturday night vino tinto – but I shall pull in six days of Body Magic and do five SP days back to back.

That SHOULD work. I really don’t think SP days get the credit they deserve from many Slimming World members. I usually do about three a week but, if I do five or six in a row before weigh day, it means a decent loss.

Why I blame the hamster

So what’s all this about why I blame the hamster, I hear you cry? I wrote last week that I only needed to lose ½lb, which is the weight of an adult hamster – those chubby-cheeked rodents that seem to never stop eating.

Fatso.

I dunno, maybe I’ve offended Artemis, the Greek god of animals, or something. What I do know is that I’ve been angelic since hitting my earlier Target 12 weeks ago – and that I’d hoped to hit my new one long before now.

Ah well, as they say, stick to the plan and it will all come good eventually, even if it takes a little longer than planned – I guess I don’t really have much weight left to lose, so it’s inevitably going to be harder.

I don’t blame myself for not hitting that Target sooner. I’ve kept my Syns low (mostly), I’ve worked out at least five times a week and I’ve pulled in loads of SP days.

I blame the hamster.

After seven years of playing at Slimming World, I finally got my head into gear and hit Target, losing 5½st. Since then, I've featured in Slimming World Magazine and won Woman of the Year twice. Not bad for a trans girl!
