Slimming World Secrets

Slimming World Slimmer of the Month awards with certificate, shiny sticker, fridge magnet and teddy bear

What is Slimmer of the Month – and how can I win?

Slimming World’s Slimmer of the Month award is, as the name suggests, a regular prize on the group calendar.

Put simply, Slimmer of the Month is the group member who has lost the most amount of weight that month.

If you’ve consistently lost weight during the four or five weigh-ins during a particular month, you’ll be in contention.

But, like Slimmer of the Week, there are certain things to be aware of if you want to win.

What must I do to win Slimmer of the Month?

You need to have lost the most weight – but that doesn’t mean you need to have lost weight every week to win.

For instance, in a four-week month, you might have started poorly, gaining 1lb, followed by a maintain. But then you get back on track on lose 5lbs in week three, and 3lbs in week four.

In total, you’ve lost half a stone during that month. Providing no-one else has lost more weight, congratulations, you’re Slimmer of the Month!

If you miss weigh-in for a week or two and yet still lose the most weight by the end of the month, it doesn’t matter – you’re still in contention.

Are there any exemptions?

Yes. Pregnant members, young (under 18) members and those below their lowest acceptable weight are out of contention.

It is also worth bearing in mind that new members are at a disadvantage in their first month because their weight loss that month is halved.

This is because new members tend to have big losses in their first week or two. If you’ve lost 12lbs in your first month, the system will register this as 6lbs. This is only for Slimmer of the Month purposes – your record will still show that you’ve lost the full 12lbs.

How is Slimmer of the Month calculated?

You must bear in mind that the Slimming World monthly calendar might be different to the actual calendar, depending on your weigh day.

For instance, in March 2021, my group had four weigh days. I weigh in on Thursdays, so these were March 4, 11, 18 and 25.

However, because the Slimming World week always begins on Mondays, this meant an extra week was added. So, the March 4 weigh-in goes down as week commencing March 1, the March 11 weigh-in goes down as w/c March 8 and so on.

That means my result on Thursday, April 1, goes down in the March calendar for Slimmer of the Month purposes because it was in w/c March 29.

This has been known to cause some confusion in group! If you’re unsure whether it’s a four-week month or a five-week one, it’s best to just check on your profile on Lifeline Online. Mine for March 2021, including that cheeky April 1 weigh-in, looks like this:

So what does Slimmer of the Month win?

Unlike Slimmer of the Week, there’s no fruit basket to be concerned about – unless you win both awards, of course.

Your first prize is another shiny. This bears the Slimmer of the Month title, the Slimming World logo and more of that beautiful design from the Sparkly Castle, this time in pink.

You also get an A5 certificate, again designed in the same pink, with the message, “Congratulations, you’re an inspiration”. This contains your name, the date and your consultant’s name. It’s common for your monthly weight loss total to be written down, too.

Again, as with Slimmer of the Week, the fridge magnet is something of a lottery, depending on your consultant. In our group, we don’t get them for Slimmer of the Week – but we do for Slimmer of the Month.

And they’re cute, containing pictures of things like flowers, butterflies and sunshine scenes, and motivational sayings such as, “Yesterday, today, tomorrow, we’re with you every step of the way”.

Sadly, the Slimming World Slimmer of the Month teddy bear in the picture above is now no longer up for grabs – and it hasn’t been in all my seven years as a member.

I bought mine for a couple of pounds on eBay, and I’ve seen them for sale since, so keep your eyes peeled.

To win Slimmer of the Month, you’ve had to work really hard at staying on plan for weeks at a time. You deserve that shiny – be proud of yourself!

After seven years of playing at Slimming World, I finally got my head into gear and hit Target, losing 5½st. Since then, I've featured in Slimming World Magazine and won Woman of the Year twice. Not bad for a trans girl!
